This is an English language lesson aimed at all general levels of students who are learning English as a second language.

The lesson gives practice and examples in the use of the word ‘Deliver’.

Let us now practice sentences using the word ‘Deliver’

The sentences are written, stated and spoken in the Imperative.

Here are examples with a subject.

  1. Ronaldo scored a goal and delivered the goods

 

(meaning he did what was expected of him as a football player – to score a goal)

 

  1. The van driver delivered the goods

(meaning the van driver deliver the products such as furniture or an electronic items ordered by a customer)

  1. The guest speaker delivered the speech

(meaning the guest speaker spoke about a specific topic in front of an audience)

  1. The postman delivered the letter. The courier delivered the parcel.

(meaning the postman/courier directly delivered the letter/parcel to its recipient either to their hand or to a letterbox at the home or place of business of the recipient)

  1. The midwife delivered the baby at the hospital

(meaning that the midwife is a specialist medical person who helped with the birth of a baby)

  1. The boy delivered the Pizza to my home

(Meaning the boy brought the pizza to my home which I had ordered by telephone)

  1. The email was delivered. My friend got the message

(in other words, the email was sent and he message was received)

  1. The boy delivered the morning newspaper on his morning round

(meaning the boy goes around every morning to take newspapers to people who had ordered them, usually to their home)

  1. The caterer delivered the lunchboxes for the teachers to the school

(it is quite common for schools in certain countries to use outside caterers to make up lunchboxes for the teachers at their school.  Therefore, the caterer (food supplier) brings the lunchboxes to the school each school day for the teachers.

  1. It’s time for the student to stand and deliver

(this is taken to mean that the student must stand up and make effort to achieve good results, perhaps for his school grades or in an examination.  Actually, ‘stand’ does not mean for the student to literally stand up to do this but the word ‘stand’ just serves to re-inforce the intention of the student to do well either to get good grades or to get a better score in the school test or examination.

  1. It’s time for the Government to deliver

(The Government has made many promises to the people which it governs but those promises have been broken.  So it is time for the Government to make good its promise and show positive action to the people)

The messages are delivered by my friend

The message is delivered by my friends

 

  1. The postman delivers the letter

The letter is delivered by the postman.

  1. The midwife delivers the baby

The baby is delivered by the midwife

  1. The courier delivers the parcel

The parcel is delivered by the courier

  1. The caterers delivers the lunchboxes

The lunchboxes are delivered by the caterers

  1. The president delivers the speech

The speech is delivered by the president

  1. The bowler delivers the ball

The ball is bowled by the bowler

  1. The florist delivers the flowers

The flowers are delivered by the florist

  1. The boy delivers the pizza

The pizza is delivered by the boy
