WELCOME TO PLANET EARTH

Welcome everyone to our English Science lesson about Earth, the fifth largest planet in the solar system and the only planet in the universe with known life.

That means we must give a big clap and cheer to that big yellow gas-ball we see every day in the sky called the Sun.

Without it, there would be no sunlight, only darkness and definitely no humans, animals or plants.

If we look at the map of the world today, we can see that there are five large land masses.

We call them Continents.

Some of the land mass becomes separated and forms islands.

Where there is no land, there is vast amounts of water in oceans, rivers and lakes.

Here on earth there are mountains, deserts, rainforests, wateralls, caves, canyons, jungles and polar regions across all the continents.

The planet is susceptible to changing weather conditions.   Rain, wind, cloud vapour are factors in determing temperature.

The earth is a globe and the equator goes around the central rim.

The geography of earth creates natural frontiers defining where humans live.

These frontiers shape a culture, custom and a tradition over thousands of years.

Eventually, humans learn how to live in nations called countries controlled by a government and ruled by a President, Emperor or a Monarch.

Over the centuries, humans have gone beyond these natural frontiers and formed new borders.

Migrants, merchants, missionaries, knights, soldiers, explorers and even tourists have all played their part in how the map of the world looks today.

The quest to understand the development of life drives humans to explore planet earth by all means possible and also go into outer space.

Let us heed the warning of global warming, manage our natural resources more wisely, understand the effects of climate change and the danger of greenhouse gases.

Earth is a global village. The need to live here is a great one and it should be done in peace.
