This is a short piece of writing about the benefit of learning English.
English is an international language and is spoken by millions of people around the world on five continents.
It is the main language of communication in science, travel and tourism, politics, commerce, medicine, education and education.
There are many benefits for learning English.
The first is surely Opportunity. It presents so many opportunities in life to people who have ambition and wish to have a happy, successful life.
Learning English will give a person greater confidence and comprehension of language itself, not just English while opening doors in the job market to be a doctor, dentist, lawyer, teacher.
In many countries around the world, children must become acquainted with a basic of four languages in their life quite early on.
The national language such as Indonesian or Spanish may not be the first.
A child will be encouraged to learn and speak the mother tongue such as Sundanese or Catalan while also having to comprehend a religious language such as Arabic and then an International language such as English or even Mandarin, French or Russian.
A real advantage for many students learning English is that it uses the Greek alphabet of twenty-six letters which is in common with many other languages around the world.

Children should learn English in a controlled but positive, energizing and imaginative way along the way.
English should never become so dominant in the learning process that the other languages needed to be spoken by the student become neglected and perhaps even abandoned in later life.
By the time full-time education is completed, a student of English should be ready and able to study English at a higher level by taking a proficiency test in the course for TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge IGCSE or IB (International Baccalaureate) leading to University admission and eventually job placement.

There are, without doubt, a few negatives with the learning of English.
One is to bring students closer to a culture which is totally different from their own with material which may only be partially censored in the learning process, if at all, thereby corrupting their moral values. Western pop songs, violence in computer games and Hollywood movies are perhaps examples of that.
Another is that the student will become part of the ‘brain drain’.
Having got benefit from learning English to improve the quality of life, the student lives and works overseas, perhaps separated from family members and not being truly nationalistic to the country which presented the opportunity.
Despite this, the advantages of learning English are far more than the disadvantages against learning it.
Learning English is a lifestyle for many people and it should be continued beyond the classroom and into family life..
Family members can speak English together for short periods at the dinner table or while driving out in the car.
