MODES OF TRANSPORTATION

This is an English lesson about Transportation.

The aim in this lesson is to practice adverbs and to talk about Transportation.

The material of this lesson can be adapted for a Powerpoint/Paper Copy presentation in the classroom.

Look to the NARRATIVE at the end of the lesson for sentence speaking practice.

Words such as MODE TYPE FORM and KIND OF are interchangeable and mean the same.

We will practice:

Hard/Hardly              Usually           Regularly

Sometimes                  Often              Rarely

Always

There are several types of Transportation:

  1. Pedestrian
  2. Road
  3. Rail
  4. Water
  5. Air
  6. Animal

PEDESTRIAN TRANSPORT

The most obvious form of transport is not using any vehicles but using our own body to walk on foot.

Sherpas, as an example the people of Nepal, are walkers, climbers and mountaineers of the Himalaya mountain range in central Asia which includes Mount Everest.

The pedicab is an early form of taxi where a person walks in front of a small carriage which carries people and he pulls the carriage along the road.

ROAD TRANSPORT

There are, of course, many types of road transport:

  1. Stagecoach
  2. Car
  3. Bus or Coach
  4. Truck, Lorry or Pick Up
  5. Tank (or Tanker)
  6. Bicycle
  7. Motor Cycle

I have included reference to ‘Tank’ because it is a military transport vehicle used in war and is well known to everyone.

A tanker is similar to both a tank and a truck or lorry, except it usually transports a liquid substance such as petroleum.

  1. Train
  2. Tram
  3. Subway, Tube or Metro
  4. Monorail

What about flight?  Man has dreamnt about flying like a bird since the beginning of time.

  1. Aeroplane
  2. Helicopter
  3. Hot Air Balloon
  4. Glider

  5. Cruise Liner
  6. Yacht
  7. Speedboat
